Terms of Service

Effective date: May 25, 2026 (updated for opt-in clip consent, captured-participant notifications, and private saved copies)

By accessing or using Crowdnine (“the Service”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account and use Crowdnine. By registering, you confirm that you meet this age requirement. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 13, we will promptly delete it.

2. Account Responsibilities

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. Do not share your password with others. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. Each person may maintain only one account.

3. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other users' accounts or our systems.
  • Use automated tools, bots, or scripts to access or interact with the Service without our prior written consent.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service, servers, or networks connected to the Service.
  • Impersonate any person or entity, or falsely claim an affiliation with any person or entity.

4. Voice Chat Conduct

Crowdnine provides shared voice chat rooms. When participating in voice chat, you agree to:

  • Treat other participants with respect. Harassment, bullying, or intimidation of any kind is prohibited.
  • Refrain from hate speech, slurs, or discriminatory language based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, or any other protected characteristic.
  • Not make threats of violence or engage in any form of threatening behavior.
  • Not broadcast excessively loud, disruptive, or offensive audio (including soundboard abuse).

Live voice chat is streamed in real time and is not recorded by Crowdnine by default. Participants who opt in can capture short clips of recent room audio, and only participants who have allowed clips are included, as described in Clips and Recorded Audio below. Violations reported by other users may result in moderation action.

5. Clips and Recorded Audio

Crowdnine lets participants capture short audio clips of a voice room. Clipping is opt-in. The rules below explain what you agree to when you allow clips of your voice:

  • You opt in: your voice is only included in a clip after you affirmatively allow clips of your voice. You can decline and still take part in the room with full audio; you simply will not be captured in any clip. You can change this preference at any time in your account settings, where you can allow clips of your voice or withdraw that consent. You can also allow clips from the in-room control, and muting keeps you out of clips at any time.
  • Public sharing: when you allow clips, you understand and agree that your voice may be captured in a clip and that clips can be shared publicly by link, so anyone with the link can listen. This public sharing is authorized by your consent.
  • A license, not ownership of your voice: no one owns another participant's voice. By allowing clips, you grant the other consenting participants and Crowdnine a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, revocable license to capture, store, and share clips that include your voice, as described in these Terms. This license ends if you withdraw consent or your audio is erased, as described below.
  • What is captured: a clip captures the last several seconds (up to 60 seconds) of room audio. Participants who are muted, or who have not allowed clips, are not captured.
  • If you are featured: if your voice is included in a public clip, we notify you and you can view the clip. You may also save your own copy of it. Saved copies are private to you and cannot be made public or shared again.

You can withdraw your consent at any time in your account settings, which stops your voice from being captured in future clips. To remove your voice from a clip that already exists, report a public clip in the app and choose the privacy reason, or for anything else contact us at support@crowdnine.app. When we remove a clip in response to a privacy or erasure request, we delete the original clip and every saved copy of it, including the stored audio. For any clip that has already been shared outside Crowdnine, we will take reasonable steps to notify others who hold or display it that you have requested its removal.

Clip audio is stored and served as ordinary audio only. We do not create voiceprints, perform speaker or other biometric identification, or transcribe clip audio. Do not create or share clips that are unlawful, infringing, harassing, or that otherwise violate the Acceptable Use and Voice Chat Conduct terms above; we may remove any clip and take moderation action for violations. How clip audio is captured, stored, and retained is described in our Privacy Policy.

6. Account Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or permanently terminate any account that violates these Terms of Service, at our sole discretion and without prior notice. You may also delete your own account at any time through the application settings.

7. Moderation Process

Violations may be reported by other users or detected by our team. Moderation actions follow an escalation process:

  1. Warning: a notice that specific behavior violates our terms.
  2. Temporary suspension: account access is restricted for a defined period.
  3. Permanent ban: account is terminated and the user is prohibited from creating new accounts.

Severe violations (e.g., threats of violence, illegal activity) may result in immediate permanent suspension without prior warning.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Crowdnine and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses resulting from your use of or inability to use the Service.

10. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising from these Terms or the Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Ontario, Canada.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may modify these Terms at any time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through the application. Your continued use of Crowdnine after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you should stop using the Service and delete your account.
